The file descriptor and file pointer are used together to access the data in the file. For example, when reading from the file, data is read from the file pointer, which in turn reads from the associated file descriptor. When writing to the file, the file pointer is used to update the associated file descriptor. Thus, the file descriptor and file pointer are used in tandem to access and modify data within the file.
